our pint-sized graduate

Last night our four year old “graduated” from preschool for the first time. She’ll graduate preschool again next year. See, some strings were pulled for our li’l church-staffer’s baby, and because there wasn’t space available in the three year old class four days a week, she’s been in a four year old class two days a week this school year. Well, the four year old class graduates each year, of course. And, next year is kindergarten for them. But, for Maggie, who belongs in the three year old class this school year, next year is four year old class again. She will be fine with that because, to her, the graduation ceremony was just another program where they sing and recite Bible verses and such. She was as cute as can be in her kelly green graduation cap and gown. Her sleeves were so long and far past her little hands that we could have tied them in the back. Come to think of it, that might be pretty neat to have in the closet some days.

So, anyway, we were getting ready to go to graduation, and Maggie was telling me, of course, exactly how she wanted her hair to look. I try hard to meet the child’s expectations, but she’s just like her daddy in that she knows exactly what she wants, and if things don’t play out in reality just exactly as she had envisioned, then ALL IS LOST.  Well, she wanted her hair in a little top-notch pony tail.  I agreed, not considering the fact that she would have her graduation cap over the top of it.  I just didn’t think about it, and away we sped to church. I got her dropped off in the choir room with all the other graduates, and hurried out to find a decent spot to watch in the midst of the crowd. Finally the ceremony began, and I could barely pick Maggie out of the processional. Because her tresses were in an up-do, the graduation cap completely concealed it. So, all you could see was her very round little face with the fullest little cheeks imaginable. Jessye (our 14 yr old daughter) and I giggled endlessly. Being a year younger than the rest, Maggie looked so tiny in that over sized graduation gown. Looked like she was playing dress up in Mommy’s clothes. Then she sat down and crossed her arms. The ends of the sleeves flopped around…I’m tellin’ ya, it looked like she had on a little green kimono.

Maggie is such a beauty. She reminds me so much of Jessye. I love reading your blog, it is such a fun way to keep up with what is going on in your world. Fun, fun.

Tracey – seriously, Joe and I could not stop smiling about the photo of your pint-sized grad. She just looked so grown up.

I remember when she took some of her very first steps at our house – seems like yesterday. Now, I gotta have a hug in person. We’ll try to hook up soon now that my guy is “home at nights” – we can scoot over. Love ya!

Reading your blogs is truely the highlight of my day, I mean it. I feel like we are back in our little “sanctuary” at work talking and talking (eating chocolate, drinking creme brulee coffee–hee, hee) reading the word together, etc. I sure do miss you!! My blog is not working for me right now so I may try to sign up with yours soon if I can’t figure it out. I can’t wait to see pictures of little (big) Maggie, what a cute, cute story.
