“Could I have your attention please?? We have a leak…errrr a flood, really, in the front lobby. I need all available garbage cans to the reception area!”Apparently there is a sink, a dishwasher, and a garbage disposal on the seventeenth floor, right above us in this 34 story office tower I work in daily. And, apparently they had barbecue for lunch, and their garbage disposal couldn’t handle all the leftovers? Hhhhhhhhh! Any-hoooooooo! Imagine if you will, sitting at the front desk when you suddenly hear, “Drip.”“Drip.”“Drip, drip, drip.”“Drip, drip, drip, drippety, drippety, drippety whoooooooooooooosh.” I utilized both my garbage can and my recycling can, and had carefully postioned them under the initial two drip streams. But, new streams kept forming! So, at that point I knew I had to call in some support! I reached for the phone and paged for back up.
Once I’d made that all points bulletin requesting all available garbage cans to the front, in came the bucket brigade: about a dozen people came with their recycling bins in hand. It was really quite amusing to see who my minute-men are here at the office! Having recently re-decorated in my front lobby, I of course was in complete frenzy mode, moving new tables, and lamps, etc. “My new carpet! My new interior flat paint! Will it withstand all this water? The leather chair! My table!!! Let’s moooooooove thaaaaaaat table!!!”
(Well you get the picture.) But, anyway, I had adequate assistance in a hurry after my cry for help! There were subsequent pours within the hour of the first flood. But, for now, all is quiet.
Just when I thought we had ourselves a decorative water feature, some little dutch boy came along and dammed up the falls.
