wednesday morning woe is me

“DeLois? I am going to be dramatically late for work today…”

Some days you just have to wonder if it wouldn’t be better to just stay in the bed.  This morning? Well. My annoying alarm went off this morning as usual. And, I hit the snooze as usual. Then the annoying alarm went off again. And, instead of hitting the snooze a second time, I opened my flip phone and silence that booger. This is ALWAYS a mistake. Always.

I try to start my day off talking to the Lord.  I gathered my legs up under me into a kneel (still in the bed, mind you). Okay it’s really not fair to call this prayer posture kneeling, per say. After all, my face is still pretty much buried in the bed linens. Okay my face is smooshed hopelessly into the pillow. But, I’m praying, mind you. Talkin’ to God.

Good morning, Lord. I love You so much! Thank you for another day to serve You! Give me wisdom that I may do Your will! Thank You, God! In the name of your precious Son I pray. Aaaaaaamen. Hhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Hhhhzzzzzzz. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.  (Good thing I don’t get out of bed and kneel in the floor to pray, huh? I’d probably have serious shag carpet embossing marks on my face. Talk about something that’d be hard to live down. )

Okay, back to the story:

HHhhhh! Hohhhh my goodness! It’s 7:08am! Ohhhhhhh! I’m supposed to be on the road no later than 7:12am. (Don’t laugh at the exactness of the time. You know when the last possible minute for you to get to work on time is, too, I’ll betcha.)

I sprung up with a start and attempted to throw my legs over the edge of the bed. But they would NOT cooperate. My legs were totally asleep from my sittin’ down place to my toes!!  I had to sit there for three minutes watching the clock ticking before I dared to try to put my weight onto my feet. Tingle, tingle, tingle, tingle.  Then the needles! Oh the dreaded needles! And more needles! Then the blood started making its way all the way down my legs again… FINALLY.

The thing about Mama oversleeping is that the same number of things still have to be accomplished despite the fact that you wake up when you should be pulling out of the driveway for work. I mean, I’ve still gotta make lunches, chase the dog around and pry whatever it is that she’s tearing to shreds out of her mouth three or four times each morning.  Find Maggie’s shoes. That in itself can be a daunting and perilous adventure. But, better me search than Terry Malone. But, that’s another story for another day all together.

Thank goodness I actually picked out Maggie’s clothes last night. But, it’s only because I knew it was going to take a little more planning than usual. You see, today and tomorrow she has to dress up like a character from a nursery rhyme. So, Maggie is “Mary, Mary Quite Contrary”.  I hope Terry found that watering can. I told him if he didn’t find it, to pluck a couple of the silk flowers out of the arrangement that’s in her bedroom and let that be her prop!  Heh! Last night I didn’t ASK Maggie who she wanted to be. I just told her.

“Maggie, tomorrow you’re dressing as ‘MARY MARY QUITE CONTRARY”.”

Mags:             “How does that go again?”

Me:                “Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?

With silver bells and cockle shells and pretty maids all in a row.”

Mags:             “Ohhh. Okay.”

Mags again:   “But who will be WEE WILLIE WINKIE?”

Me:                 “Uhhh…well, you can be Wee Willie Winkie if you’d like.”

Mags:             “Noooooooo! Mama!” she said with a note that declared me certifiable.

                        “I can’t be HIM! He’s a BOY!”

Me:                 “Well ALL RIGHT THEN! Youuuuu brought it up, Maggie!”

Hhhhhhhhhhhh! Good grief!
