daddy daily volume 15

Daddy has communicated with understandable words this morning! Praise the Lord! He asked for “water from that pitcher over there”, as well as several other things this morning. Unfortunately he’s not allowed to have it. He has also asked to sit up. Not allowed to do that either. Susan stayed overnight. He smiled when he woke up and saw her this morning. Smiled, also, when the neuron surgeon came in. CT scan done yesterday showed further improvement. Doctor said the verbalization/communication we’re seeing is “amazing”.

Doctor also said that there may be another shunt surgery forthcoming. I probably shouldn’t even try to say anything about this, but I’ll muddle through, and y’all just realize that I may not have this completely straight and you may see a revision on some of this later.  But, from what I understand, Daddy’s brain is maybe not as supple as it may have once been. And, therefore the shunt is not doing that much for him, or something to that effect. So, they may try to do some sort of anti-siphoning addition to this shunt. Or was that siphoning? See, I don’t know enough to be talking about this yet. But, point is, they may do some tweaking’ to the shunt he has. Or they may take that out and try another kind of shunt. We’ll see, I guess.

Last night his pulse rate dropped into the forties again. They came immediately and did an EKG. But, by the time they did that it was already in the fifties again. They contacted the cardiologist and he said that was OK and that they’d be in to see him this morning. Also, his blood pressure seems to be creeping up each time they take it. But, as I said, the cardiologist will be in to assess him this morning.

So, we are cautiously optimistic. And, grateful to have moments of clear communication…PRAISE THE LORD!  (Though his speech is still interspersed with some things we can’t make out.) Susan said at one point this morning, “Daddy, I am trying to understand what you are saying.”  And, he said, “I am trying, TOO.”  And, she said, “Can you just say one word at a time???” And he said, “NO!” And she said, “Okay, well, can you try to slow it down a little?” And he said, “I’ll try.”

Mercy, he’s asked to sit up. He’s said he needs to spit. That didn’t work out well, so Susan got a damp paper towel and swiped around in there some, as well as those sponge on a stick thingies…just to try to help him out. He did NOT want her to use that suction device. So, she didn’t, and won’t unless it’s just medically necessary. She asked him if he’d like for her to open the blinds so he could see the sun come up. He said, “No.”  She said, “Well, how ‘bout if I turn that lamp over in the corner on?” He said, “OKAY.” So, she did. And he said, “That’s nice.”

That IS nice, isn’t it? He said a mouthful!!

…Pray on, all you PRAY-ers! And thank you for all these petitions on Daddy’s behalf.

Absolutely wonderful news for prayer warriors! We know, but we continue to stand amazed in HIS PRESENCE!! Hope you all are able to get some rest. Can’t wait to hear what the cardiologist says after his visit.
Side note: Kathy is well enough to travel down state today with the boys to see her family and friends (her mom’s birthday was this week).

I was happy to hear this morning, your Dad responded with understandable words.
We know it is going to be a long process, but we are still keeping you all in prayer.
