letter to that mean old man who cussed me out when i called his phone by mistake

Hello Bill!

Have you ever mis-dialed when using the telephone? I’ll bet you have! Sure! Everyone has!

Well, Bill…I’m writing today because I had the great misfortune calling your phone by mistake. I was trying to call WAL-MART, but I misunderstood the number the operator had given me. Normally, that’s NOT a big deal, but YOU made it one!

I am sure it must be terribly irritating to have a phone number that’s so similar to that of your neighborhood WAL-MART. However, that doesn’t in any way justify the rude and inappropriate language you chose to speak to me with once you realized I was another “wrong number”.

So, anyway, I went home and found your name and address, and even a map to your house on the internet…and that was all because I had your phone number. And I remembered your phone number because you were so mean to me.

I just want you to know how EASY it was to find out who you are and where you live. And ANYBODY with a computer can do that. Modern technology just makes it a scarier thing to be hateful to people, Bill. It’s just not safe because the people you’re mean to can come to your house and let you know what they think about your behavior if they want.

Now, I’m not perfect, but because I’m a pretty good-hearted person, I thought I’d do you the favor of letting you know how easy it would be for someone who is angry and crazy to come after you for cussing them. Did you ever think about that? Watch the news and see if this doesn’t make sense to you once you consider it, Bill.     Seriously!

You are truly blessed, though. You really are!  Because, THIS TIME you cussed out a really nice, Christian lady when I dialed your phone by mistake! And, instead of seeking revenge, I’m just sending you a friendly letter. What if next time you cuss out a wrong number, you were to cuss out a criminal? You could have an angry, crazy person on your front porch in the middle of the night. All because you’re irritable and have a bad temper. Now, that’s just a shame!

Be nice, Bill. For your own protection, be nice! There are lots of people in this world who are vengeful and just plain mean! Even meaner than you!

I know that people like you must be sad and hurting— to act so MEAN and HURTFUL to others. But, goodness! What kind of man cusses out a nice, polite lady who just got a wrong number? That’s just rude and uncalled for.

Here’s what you said to me:      “NO SH** this ain’t WAL-MART (heh, heh, heh, heh, hehhhhh!) “Why don’t you quit guessin’ and stop irritatin’ your neighbor? Happy new year!”

Bill…Happy new year to YOU!  I pray your 2010 is better than you’ve ever had in your whole life! May the Lord radically bless you and may He soften your heart so that you will choose to follow Jesus Christ, turn from your mean-spirited ways and be blessed as you become a blessing to others in God’s world! Won’t you stop being so hateful and mean, Bill? It’s just not safe to act like that these days! Behave yourself, you rascal!

Grace and peace to you through Christ the Lord! God loves YOU, Bill!

Oooh, Trace! I hope your number isn’t reverse-look-up-able, because the kind of person you are referring to who might show up on somebody’s doorstep…well, I think that’s who BILL is.

And he prolly has caller id!
