daddy daily volume 33

Sunday after church Mama and I went after church to see Daddy. They’d had to give him Adavan to calm him down earlier in the day.   So, he was asleep for our visit. He did open his eyes and acknowledge us when we came in. But then he fell back asleep, talking intermittently in his sleep all the while.  (more…)

daddy daily volume 32

My daddy was transported to a senior center in a nearby hospital last night for psychiatric evaluation and medication adjustments. He’ll be there until the first of October, and then he will be transported by ambulance from the hospital to the nursing facility near Mama’s home town.

Please pray that they’ll be able to medication(s) that will help him be more calm and less combative. Mama had requested that his psychiatrist see about a time of evaluation before he goes to the new place. We just didn’t know transport would be yesterday until… …well, yesterday when they told Mama. Daddy has a room reserved for him now at the other nursing facility further south. Mama’s already asked about furniture and how much they’d be able to bring in. The owner said she believes that both of Mama and Daddy’s recliners will fit in his room without any problem– in addition to the hospital bed, for which the new home will take care of making arrangements to get.  Daddy can be moved into the new place on October 1st.  For the purpose of still being within the 100 days that are covered free  by medicare, he has to be out of the place he’s in now by October 3rd, I believe.  So, there is a certain amount of closure and comfort (what little is possible) over having arrangements made for the move. A new place for him has been secured. It’s good to have that part taken care of. (more…)

A couple of days ago, Daddy said to Mama, “Honey, you look tired.” And she said, “Well, I am a little tired, I guess.” And he said, “Well, I guess you are. You’ve been up cleaning this house all day long! Every time I see you, you’re just cleaning this house!”  So, I guess, that tells a lot. (more…)

daddy daily volume 29

Well, Daddy was resting today when I went to see him. He was glad to see me. I brought a gift bag with Nutter Butters, Reese’s peanut butter cups, and Snickers. WHO, I ask you, would not be glad to see a person with that kind of calling card? = ) When I was a little girl, Daddy would disappear in his pick up truck, and return with a little brown paper sack of goodies. And, we’d all be gathered downstairs in the den of our house on Victoria Drive… (more…)

Not a good day. No, not at all. Mama called me this morning at 8:18.  The nurses where Daddy is called early, early this morning and asked her to come right away. Daddy was angry and violent. And, someone in housekeeping had gone out a back door to empty the trash. Daddy realized the door was open, and he stood up out of his wheel chair and made a break for it. A CNA was able to get him back inside, but it took calling a maintenance man to assist them since Daddy was so bent on leaving and exhibiting a threatening nature. Mama called me sobbing and said she needed help. She also called Susan. So, Susan came by and picked me up on her way over there and we just rode together. All Daddy can think about is getting out of there. (more…)

Daddy is getting stronger physically, as well as somewhat stronger cognitively. He is walking much steadier. They started him using a cane instead of a walker yesterday. Trouble is he uses the cane for a pointer. Yesterday while walking in the hall during physical therapy, he passed his room mate, Dan, and challenged him to a duel. (Nice to know he hasn’t lost his sense of humor!) (more…)
